| The West Concord Historical Society Car & Truck Show is
held during Survival Days, and is scheduled for July 26, 2008.
The 2008 show will feature expanded classes and more trophies.
Click
here for the updated list, which will include separate truck classes, as
well as expanded car classes. Car clubs who would like to request a
specific class to be included in 2008, please contact us - it's not too
late!
One of the new features we're most excited about is the addition of a
Featured Class, which we hope will be a unique tradition that will
attract both more spectators and more interest from car and truck owners.
The idea is that we could have one class every year that is not offered as a
regular class - something out of the ordinary, or a way to "test the waters"
as a class to offer in future years. The Featured Class for 2008 will
be Classic and Antique Fire Trucks.

Entrance Fee: $5.00
Tentative times.....
Registration: 10:00am - 12 Noon
Ballot Deadline: 2:30pm
Awards: 3:00pm
Driveway Entrance: Olive Street, 1-1/2 blocks west of MN Hwy 56 (Watch for
signs, or follow this link for
directions)
Inside the WCHS building:
Food: The WCHS usually plans on a lunch served in the Flame Room, which is on the main floor of the
classroom-side of the building. They will be serving during the lunch hour.
Water: There’s a water fountain in the gym, or tap water faucets in either
restroom.
Restrooms: Men are on the north side of the gym, and Women are on the south
side.
Doors: There are entrances on three sides - north, east and west.
Check out the WCHS Home Page
for pictures and descriptions of many of the displays.
Within walking distance:
Food and refreshments: Many vendors will be set up on Main Street, east of
Highway 56. Just go north of the WCHS building for three blocks and turn
right.
Activities: If you’re interested in staying for other activities
after the car show, there’s no shortage of things to do! Refer to the
Survival Days schedule at
www.westconcordmn.com
for more information. A flier will be available at the registration desk.
Within a short drive:
There’s a Concord Cemetery Walk, which features
reenactments of notable people and events from our area’s history (who
happen to be buried at the cemetery). It’s extremely interesting - just take
County Road 24 (Concord Street, which intersects Highway 56 on the north end
of town) to the east for 3 miles to the community of Concord.
One more suggestion: There are many historical buildings to the
southeast of West Concord. The community of Wasioja was the first settlement
in Dodge County, and contains an actual Civil War recruiting station, as
well as the remains of the county’s only post-secondary institution. A
little farther is the city of Mantorville, with many restored shops, the
Dodge
County Historical Society, the famed Hubbell House restaurant, and much
more. Ask for directions, if you need them.
